The Quatsino First Nation has inhabited the lands and waters of northern Vancouver Island since time immemorial.

Our traditional territory is bordered by Brooks Peninsula, Victoria Lake, Rupert Inlet, Cape Sutil, and Cape Scott. At its heart are Quatsino Sound, Holberg Inlet, Winter Harbour, Neroutsos Inlet, Rupert Inlet, Klaskish Inlet, Klaskino Inlet, Raft Cove, and San Josef Bay.

Today, the Quatsino First Nation lives on IR #18—the Quatsino Subdivision—just north of Coal Harbour and near Port Hardy. The name Quatsino refers both to our current place of residence and to our traditional village of Quattishe.

An amalgamation of five ancestral Kwakwaka’wakw tribes, we maintain strong, long-held cultural traditions and utilize our traditional territory extensively for resource gathering, ceremonies, hunting, fishing, timber harvesting, trapping, and many other traditional activities. At the same time our Nation remains active and integral to the economy, industry, and community of northern Vancouver Island.
